If you read our last Guide Dog update you’ll know that unfortunately, Zeb didn’t make it through his basic training and had to hang up his collar early. Despite this, he seems to be thoroughly enjoying retired life and is currently on holiday with experienced puppy boarder, Mike. He’s learned to swim and loves long runs with Mike’s wife. Zeb will be settling into a permanent home as a family pet in a few months’ time and we’ve no doubt he’ll steal their heart too.
Labradoodle, Ava on the other hand seems to be coming on leaps and bounds during her training. She’s recently moved on to advanced training in London and the hustle and bustle doesn’t seem to bother her one bit. Ava loves trains and buses and it won’t be long before she gets introduced to the Underground and tries out escalators – one city savvy dog. Her trainer Luke says Ava is very confident and takes everything in her stride. She’s rarely scared to try new things which is great, she picks new skills up really quickly too.
With training going so well, the team will soon be looking to match Ava with a potential owner. “Ava’s future owner will have to suit a dog with personality, she’s quite a character” says Luke, “Because she’s a labradoodle she’s more suited to someone with a dog allergy because she doesn’t moult much at all”. We’re so pleased Ava has settled in well and it’s great that she could be changing someone’s life, especially if that person could not normally have a dog due to allergies.
